republican idealogical beliefs but will be strong in november, this is where we should invest our time and energy. >> you're saying some are getting lost along the way, then. >> yeah. some of them became bad candidates even though they hit some of the main points of what they said they believed. but if they can't get elected, we haven't moved the ball forward and sometimes we have defeated very, very good candidates who believe very strongly in the republican ideology. >> admiral, could this republican intraparty struggle we appear to be seeing good for democrats, or could they run into trouble if republicans start putting up less extreme candidates? >> well, i think -- i do not agree with the tea party but i think something that's worse are the super pacs. i believe that the republican party shouldn't go that way, what they're attempting to do. i had my establishment democratic party try to keep me out of a primary. it doesn't work. i believe, however, in a very strong two-party system and i think there are better use of the resources by the republican party, would actually be more recognizable
